Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County's website. Scroll down on the left and click on Current Events/Program Calendar. A great site that links to their calendars by subject area or month. The monthly calendars in the warm months list all the farmer markets in Jefferson County.
Saturday, August 9th, beginning at 9:30a.m. — Triple Event Attraction: Woodswalk in Working Forest, PotLuck Lunch, Annual THRIFT Auction at home of George and Terry Cataldo, Pine Grove Road, 376-2014 for directions. Look for an orange cone by the driveway. We’ll meet at Cataldo’s at 9:30 so folks will have a few minutes to visit before heading for the woodlot (weather permitting). DEC Forester Fred Munk expects to be with us, and should have some helpful pointers and informative comments to share. Alternate activity, in case of rain, may be a log sawing demonstration in George’s mill, plus some question and answer time with George and Fred. There’ll be tables available inside and out, once we’ve worked up an appetite. Bring anything you’d like to share, but don’t feel you have to fix something if it’s not convenient. There’ll be plenty to go around. After eating, and listening to a few tall tales, we’ll move to the auction. This annual auction is THRIFT’s only regular fundraiser, and it benefits the Education Fund, which has awarded scholarships and helped to underwrite other educational projects. Donations for this auction are always welcome. Fred Snyder has been using his talents as an auctioneer to keep things hopping at these auctions for several years. Items to be auctioned range from knick-knacks to sawn lumber, bird houses, books, antiques, shop tools—you name it. Be sure to bring a friend or two to this special event. The more the merrier!
Friday - Sunday, August 15th - 17th - NYS Woodsmen's Field Days in Boonville.
